Chapter Ten

CARTER kissed Fallon’s forehead. “I have to go make breakfast and stuff.”

“For who, love? No one’s here. You can have the day off.”

Oh, that was a temptation. Just to crawl in bed with Fallon and snooze the day away.

Thank the moon that the damn days were shorter and the snows were brutal.

“You think so?”

“I think so. I can guarantee Tanner is hungover and grumpy and will be staying in bed.”

“Oh, mate.” He gave in to the urge and pulled the blankets around them, basking in the glow of Fallon’s laptop.

“Mmm. That’s it, sweet. Now, if you get hungry we can totally run downstairs, but this is grand.” Fallon sounded so pleased.

“It is. Are you working or playing?”

“A little of both. I was just plotting out something new.”

“Cool. Can I watch?”

“You can.” Fallon leaned over to press a soft kiss to his mouth. “You inspire me.”

“Who doesn’t want to hear that? Seriously.”

“It’s true. I’ve branched out. Of course, I also have a new thriller. The words are all right there.” Fallon stuck out his tongue and wiggled the tip.

He reached out and touched. He had to. That tongue was tempting him.

Fallon’s eyes crossed, and they both laughed out loud.

“Tell me about your new idea?” He rested his head against Fallon’s shoulder.

“It’s a paranormal. I just finished the first last week.” Fallon rumbled on about werefolk and sex and good stuff.

He listened, but mostly he soaked in the sound of Fallon’s voice. Carter watched the little words pop up on the screen with unfocused eyes, loving how they could just be. Together.

“You’re good to bounce ideas off, love.”

Carter chuffed softly, but really, Fallon was the one having ideas. He was being quiet.

He hummed a little, his cat wanting out. His cat did love to snuggle, to keep Fallon warm.

“Go ahead, mate. He’s welcome.”

“Really?” He didn’t want to miss the possibility of naked fun, but it would only be another hour, hour and a half before Fallon began to shut down for the day.

“Yes. You warm me down deep.”

“I love you.” He kissed Fallon’s chin before letting go of the man’s body, letting the cat take up his space.

“And I love you, Carter. Come on, settle.”

Carter nosed around the blankets, his tail up, digging his paws into the mattress before he curled up against Fallon’s hip. His silly man-vampire made him happy.

One hand dropped to his head and began to scratch, his wild purr filling the air. Fallon knew him. Knew what he needed.

“That’s right, Carter. I do.” Fallon grabbed one ear, rubbing it, stroking it.

He rubbed his whiskers against Fallon’s leg. His love. His vampire. His.

“Tickling, kitty.”

He did it again, loving that laughter.

Fallon rubbed one finger against his nose, making Carter sneeze. “Bless you!”

“Rowl.”

“Mmm-hmm.” Fallon patted him absently.

He nibbled one hip, then Fallon’s fingers when his mate tried to push him away.

“Shh. Working.” Fallon scolded the cat far more than the man.

His cat knew things his man did now. How odd. How wonderful.

He rolled over and batted the cord of Fallon’s computer.
